Can someone translate boy into girl?

So, for the first time in...ever, I've developed a crazy crush on a guy who I barely know. We work together. After about a month of us joking around at work, and what I thought was flirting, I asked him the big "do you like me?" My answer was "I don't know" and after further questioning I got a list of reasons why he won't date me:
1. His parents would give him shit because I'm not white.
2. I cut and that bothers him.
3. He doesn't want a relationship right now.
4. He has no feelings for me.
5. We work together
And he closed all of this by saying, "I don't know what MIGHT happen later on. It MIGHT change. Right now I'm at fifty percent."

So, being the smarty that I am I took all of this as a sugarcoated "no thank you" and went on my way. However, as the days have gone by I am now finding myself questioning it. At work we're glued at the hip and, without going into long stories, he watches my back. He's almost protective of me. I can't tell if we're flirting or if it's just his outgoing personality. Was he really telling me "no, I don't like you like that" like I thought he was or is he saying "give me time" or something like that? Someone, please translate!

1. His parents are not tolerant enough but he is.
2. Probably emotional issues he doesn't want to deal with.
3. He doesn't want one currently but things could change.

5. Working together can cause stress. (explained below)

Working together can cause a big stress factor. I personally know how that is, me and my girlfriend work together, and I can become overly protective, and also just the chatter from people at work is a problem. But we agreed not to tell them for awhile and it was my idea so they did not mess up our relationship as it began to blossom. Currently I still have protective issues but they are better, and the people at work all seem to enjoy it, so they are pretty supportive :D.

I think he is saying give me time to adjust to the idea. If he is watching you and you are "glued to the hip" then he probably giving the idea some though. So you could wait awhile and see where things go and ask him again later. If he didn't want anything to do with you he wouldn't be watching you. He would probably avoid a lot of contact with you, because it would be weird. But since he is watching you he is probably working on the situation, so ask him at a later time and continue to have fun.
