Saw George Carlin's religion video yesterday for the first time and absolutely had to share it. Very few things can keep my attention for more than a few seconds, and this was definitely one of them. A must watch.
A word of warning, if you take things very seriously, then this may not be for you.
At their root, most of the world's religions have a core message of love and acceptance for your fellow man. Over the centuries however these belief systems have been twisted to encourage war, killing, and other noble deeds. Incredible numbers of people have died in our history "in the name of God", which is perhaps the greatest sacrilege of all.
And this I believe is what George is talking about, not "God", but various oppressive and vindictive religions / religious organizations.
I've often said "my God doesn't need therapy" referring to the judgmental, vindictive, and narrow minded supreme being with an inferiority complex that so many people live in fear of every day. I prefer to believe in a God that represents love, understanding, and enlightenment. To each his own of course.
I was actually going to inquire as to if you knew or liked George Carlin, as you seem to share in his beliefs. He's not only very intellectual, savvy and articulate, but funny! One of the best stand-up comedians to have ever graced the earth. He'll be missed!
I'm thinking of being his full collection set, "All my stuff". He has all of his HBO specials in there plus bonus interviews. That would be awesome to see, youtube only goes so far. :p
