I like the strategies put forward in this article. Personally, I have a mixed bag. I have friends who know, and one who even tried it our for herself, and some who don't. I always like playing with the subject with some of our "vanilla" friends. Sometimes you'd be surprised at the reactions!
Me: Yeah, I saw a special on tv lastnight about this swingers resort.
Friend: Oh yeah, I saw it too! Man, that's something!
Me: Yeah, it's beautiful there, and the people seemed very open and honest.
Friend: You know, I've always thought that would be interesting to try, but I don't even know how anyone would go about doing that sort of thing. (even though their browser history probably has LOTS of swinger related hits since the tv show)
And so on, you can then use this to open up discussion about the various websites, or clubs in your area. Sometimes those vanilla friends are freaky! Then this also gives a chance to get the "Oh my goodness, how could anyone do that? That's disgusting and wrong!" response to which you now know this isn't someone who you would want to be open with. It can be an interesting ride, but testing the waters might help you too.
