Well I have never seen the music video before but I have turned up the radio every time I heard that song... it has been my favorite summer song. At the beginning of the summer I was driving a friend's freshman daughter to summer school and she was singing along with it the first time I had heard it...lol. I have also seen a young girl, probably 14 or 15 years old, with that song as her ringtone! LOL

Now that I've seen the video... well... we'll just keep those comments to a different discussion. I do believe that perhaps this, and other sings like it are leading to a new sexual freedom for Americans. Maybe afterall it isn't such a bad thing to be a "dirty girl" :)

Also, I laugh at the one cell phone commercial where the family goes to a foreign beach and the father says he didn't have any signal there so he didn't get the message warning them about the local beaches... some of which are more nude than others... Reminds me of the discussion on bare breasts in public. As Americans aren't we all a little uptight about sexuality in general? I say KUDOS to Katy Perry (what a sexy little girl she is!) and any others willing to break the taboo on mainstream music record labels and the radio stations willing to play them.

Time for America to wake up and smell the... well... whatever it is you smell for sexual freedom.

Also, I say KUDOS to Dan and Jennifer, for this very forum and this very website are a part of the slow but sure sexual awakening in America.

Even though it might break some barriers and what-not, the song is hideous, not worth listening and the video not worth watching as well. The song might induce to people criticize the LGTB community since the message is just shown in the wrong light IMO: She kissed a girl and she liked it. So she, all of a sudden, turned out to like girls too. I know it is not that the message of the song, but people are taking it that way too.

Katy Perry is not a good singer either.

I don't know. I just want my 3-ish minutes back. (Yes, this was the first time I had the decency to watch the whole video)

It’s a fun song and it does help chip away at the walls of ignorance that exist. Music, movies and books do that for some people. I hope more will follow

I like her voice and the song. We all have our favorite styles of music. For example, while working in the yard my husband was singing songs from The Partridge Family. Not what most people would call quality but they are fun, he was having fun and I enjoyed the show too. People like what they like, but to call it hideous and not worth listening to is a matter of opinion. As much as you may dislike the song I don’t really think it of no value but to each his own.

Now here you have me interested and in possible agreement. Can you explain what is negative in the song? To me words are powerful things and as much as it’s a catchy fun tune I would like to know if it hurts people by promoting lies about community

I heard this on the internet a while back and I really liked the song. I think it is a step forward in the right direction and I hope to hear more like it.

Of course some of our friends in the "swinger community" are saying this is "the new swinger anthem". And I can see why.

To me this song represents a shift in awareness and acceptance that we are all unique, and that it's OK.

It's OK for a woman to admit she's sexually attracted to another woman, or a man to be attracted to another man - although not long ago 'http://forum.askdanandjennifer.com/topic/gay-sex-a-mental-disorder-huh-video'. Yeah, definitely something to be proud of (end sarcasm).

It's interesting... just a few short years ago we were running radio ads with that same radio station and had to edit our ad to take out the word "gay". Seriously, in the year 2005 (yes, B.C.) you couldn't say the word "gay" in a completely innocuous way on a major Dallas radio station.

Perhaps we are growing as a people after all. Your thoughts?

Well I'm glad someone kissed a girl and liked it, I was getting a bit worried. But I wonder if a guy proclaimed "I kissed a boy and I like it" would get the love this singer enjoys now? Still, LBGT rights and visibility has come a long way from Stonewall.

Bisexuals are now finding their voice and are finding comfort in admitting their attraction for both sexes. Transgendered community members are finding their voice causing straight society to really talk about when and how a person identifies themselves who they are sexually. The list goes on and on.

I was going to find a CNN report aired last night about the new visibility this fall of recurring GLBT but I found this one more appropriate showing how far we've come from Paul Lynn, to AIDS, to Ellen (the first time) and now this:
