I don't know what he's got in mind, but to me it seems he may be choosing not to do the things you want him to do. This can be a punishment much worse than a reddened bottom... it's psychological punishment.. and if this is the case, he's loving it, watching you ache for the leash and burning butt, and not getting it.

Of course, I may be totally off here, but that's my feeling (because that's what I'd do ;))
