Actually, your chances were pretty high. For one, having sex right after her period is actually more risky than doing it before. You'd think it'd be the other way around, right?
Anyway. It's great that nothing went wrong, and really your chances weren't too bad, considering you did try to keep the unprotected sex during her period. But I have a friend who went years having unprotected sex with her boyfriend and never had anything go wrong.
Life's just screwed up like that. You're lucky :)

When she starts the pill, don't forget to make sure she takes it at the EXACT SAME TIME EVERY DAY. It's really important, especially if you plan on having unprotected sex while she's on the pill. Same time. Every day. No fail. Don't forget. ^-^

No, that's what I thought at first too, but you definitely DO need to take it at the EXACT same time. There's about a 15 minute leeway, but that's it. If you are having, or plan to ever have, ANY unprotected sex, she has to take it at the exact same time.

It's how the pill works. It sends a message to the brain for exactly 24hours and 15minutes. If she doesn't take them at the same time, the message stops and there's a chance that she'll release an egg during the time in between, and even if she takes it at the right time the next day, she could still get pregnant because it was released.

It's okay if she forgets once or twice out of the month, but make sure she then takes it as soon as possible, and you DO NOT have unprotected sex for at least a week or so.

It's important. This is how the majority of women who get pregnant while on the pill get pregnant. Don't mess with it. Have her set her alarm on her cell phone or something for the same time every night or morning, so she'll never forget.

(Taking it at the same time also helps prevent side effects, but that's a little less relevant here.)

Yes you should take it the exact time every day to keep up the dose so it prevents pregnancy accurately. A hour later wont effect the pill but try to stick to the exact time.

Well, you were really playing a risky game by having unprotected sex...and be aware that pill is also not 100% protection from pregnancy (they say it is 99%), besides once a woman starts taking them it takes one-two monts till they are fully protecting...

i always do take care of her...except the unprotected thing...but yeah i think its supposed to range from like 98.9 to like 99.8% effective..or sumthin like that...
but im always gunna be there for her even if she did get pregnant..which is a lot more than sum guys can say..but just to stay on the safe side im still gunna use condoms sumwhere between half the time and most of the time...i just love the way it feels without...

Actually, it does matter, an hour later could effect the pill. Its not guaranteed that it'll make something bad happen, but it ups the chances a LOT. Taking it at the exact same time keeps that 98-99% accuracy at its best. It's the science of how the pill works and what it does. It really is important.

no i dont go to wiki for all sex questions...i do a lot of research on this stuff because im one of those rare "resonsible teens"....well except when it came to the unprotected sex thing...but i just like to be sure of myself so i looked it up....but my point is that an hour or two even isnt gunna kill the effect of the pill completely....plus like i said in an earlier message..im gunna be using condoms somewhere between half the time and most of the time..

Not to be a pain in the butt to you men but WHY do you guys always lay it on the women??? I could never remember to take my pill at the same time, and I think my guy should have been happy i remembered to take it almost every day :P I am on Nuvaring right now. But all in all, I don't take hormones for birth control reasons. I guess I don't think it is very fair to dump that on the woman and then if even if she happens to get pregnant even while on the pill, everything is HER fault and she trapped him and whatever he lays blame upon her for.

Anyways. You probably are lucky she didn't get pregnant unless you really don't mind the idea of kids. Remember, it does take two to tango, so it isn't like it's all her fault if she got pregnant.

im not sayin anything to blame girls at all...i agree that there are tons of dumbass guys out there....AND IM A GUY!!!....

i know for DAMN sure its not just a girls fault....i know that girls cant just randomly get pregnant on their own...its not like they have sperm....

if my girl got pregnant...i would want to take all the blame because with a baby in her body and a million emotions running around like crazy i dont think she would deserve to take 0.0001% of the blame.....

Taking it late wouldn't throw off the entire pill, that's not what I'm saying. Like I said, it's okay if she takes it late now and then, but here's why she should do her best not to let that happen. Here's how the pill works.

The majority of birth controls mainly work by releasing certain hormones that tricks your brain into thinking it's pregnant. Your brain then sends a message to your ovaries saying "Don't release an egg, Don't release an egg." If an egg isn't released, there's no egg to fertilize, and no pregnancy.
The brain sends this message for exactly 24 hours and 15 minutes. So once you take it, you have to take the next pill in exactly 24 hours, give or take 15 minutes.
If she takes the pill after that time passes, the message stops.
It's not that the pill stops working or anything, its that if she takes it late and the message has already stopped, there's a chance that her ovaries, without the message being sent, will release an egg. Then there's an egg in her system that can be fertilized, whether she takes the next pill or not.
There are other things the pill does to help prevent pregnancy if that happens, but they aren't nearly effective as this main objective.

That's why its important to take it at the same time. It's not like it fucks up the whole thing, its just that it increases the risk, especially if you ever plan on having unprotected sex.

OK, when it comes to pill I think that the best think is to follow what your doctor says and what is written on the box...and as much as I know (and I might be wrong) it is not exactly 24h 15 minutes...but still if you want it to be the most efective do take it at the same time and it does not loose its efect of you are one two hours late. It is rather becuase of your body's rithm that it is better to take it at the same time. Your girlfriend's ginecologist is more likely going to tell you little "tricks" how to rember taking the pill regularry or if ou want some more tips ask here. He will also tell you when the pill is not effcient any more, even if it is taken regularry. I would rather relay on what a docotr say and prescriptions on pills box than on variations of things people say here. But this is my opinion. Still keep in minde pill really is not a 100% safe game, even if it is protecting pretty high from pergnancy and wearing condom sometimes in the cycle will not mean you are protected...but hay, you still will be protected very high..
I also keep wondering if it is all right that the only reason your girlfreind will start taking pills is because YOU like to have it without condom. And what about her? I understand that for you it is really more fun, and that you want to go as safe as possible, and still you never mention what does she want, and what her reasons are. Will you tell us more about this?
I also do not know your age. Still when I hear that you will ALWAYS be there for her, I still feel a bit worried. Did you really think over what having a kid would look like? how will that change your life - your and hers? If you did, then fine, go ahead. Have fun. There are other forms of birth control that are not the pill. There are IUDs, Nuvaring, that weird hormone thing they put under your skin (I forgot the name!). You can always use condoms and abstinence (I know, but where's the fun in that right?) AND the guys can always get a vasectomy, then they don't have to worry about what the girl is doing (or not doing...).

The pill is not effective with anything. I know women vary from person to person. I know I could NEVER take the pill at the same time every day and I felt I was doing good to remember to take it every day. I even knew girls that got pregnant who DID follow it every day, same time... etc.

I guess if he's wondering what his chances were before she went on the pill.... then they in theory should be a lot LESS now. Less of a chance to get pregnant. In all honesty, why wonder about it at all at this point. She isn't pregnant, she didn't manage to get pregnant in that year or whatever. Just be happy and move on.

im 15(my girlfriend is the same age) we've had unprotected sex here and there...nothing ever happened....we've talked about "what if 's " and everything....
yeah we're really young as opposed to being.....you know.....like in late 20's and
30's but we're still very smart....we may be young but we have lots of experience..whether it be sexual exp. or just experience in life in general....

love is just something thats there and its great and awesome and amazing..its whatever you think it is. Theres no exact definition...the only definition that should work out in all peoples heads is that its a feeling of affection towards another person...and thats definately what we have for eachother....honestly..yeah im not ready for a baby and i know for damn sure that she isnt either....
NO.....she isnt getting on the pill just so we can do it unprotected....she's doing it so we dont have to worry as much....yeah it feels good unprotected...but to me thats just a small benifet of the pill....im still gunna use condoms a lot....A LOT!!

I also understand that the pill thing is about being more safe and being more responsible and protected in your sexual life than what you have been before.
