This is kind of an off-topic thing, but it does go along with all the discussion on sex ed. Yesterday at work I was talking with a co-worker who's grandson we'll call "Tommy" is 10 and had his 1st day of sex ed the day before. The kid made everyone laugh when he asked "Mom, am I sterilized?" when he meant to ask if he had been circumsized. She went on to say that he had also learned what goes where during sex, and about wet dreams. From what she said "Tommy" was telling her was that the kid was very interested in learning more. He and his friends talked about it after class, and some other kids joined in... adding what they had learned before this class.. including that if a girl is bleeding she can't get pregnant, if a girl puts her mouth on it first she won't get pregnant, and that you don't need a condom if you're both virgins. Anyone see anything wrong with any of this?

Now this particular kid's family was comfortable enough in talking to him that they corrected these things and set him straight. But what about all the other kids who's families don't want to talk about it? Obviously "Tommy's" friends hadn't discussed this with their parents, or if they had, their parents weren't sexually educated enough to correct them.

So this got me thinking. These kids are 10... and they've already gotten bad info about sex somewhere. Whether it be from other classmates, an older sibling, tv, internet, or their own concoction doesn't matter. They have bad info, and someone needs to correct it or someone will end up hurt.

I guess the purpose of this post is to spark thinking and discussion. I know it's been discussed before, but it became fresh to me with the talk with my co-worker and I'm hoping to refresh the topic for you.
